Sumac is the berry from the sumac tree. It is one of the most recognizable spices of the Middle East. But it is not yet a household spice in most kitchens, making it even extra special. Sumac is deliciously tangy and sour with hints of lemon. Because of its flavor, it is used as a souring agent instead of citrus juice or vinegar. Our sumac is being grown in Lebanon.
Sumac is great in salads, on hummus and with any fish or seafood. But can also be used in delicate desserts! Sumac is also known for its use in teas, so that could also be an interesting experiment at home. Another extra benefit of this spice is the large number of nutrients it contains, making it a healthy and delicious extra.
